Gamescom 2025: everything announced during the Opening Night Live showcase

An epic Opening Night Live showcase kicked off Gamescom 2025 last night (August 19) featuring a whole host of exciting announcements – here’s everything that went down.

Gamescom is an annual gaming exhibition with the 2025 event taking place in Cologne. The convention starts today (August 20) and is set to run until August 24, with over 1500 exhibitors taking part. Attendees will be able to get an early glimpse at upcoming titles such as Hollow Knight: Silksong and Metroid Prime 4 as well the new handheld Xbox ROG Ally console. For those not in Cologne, a number of livestreamed presentations are set to take place across the event including two Xbox showcases.

The event kicked off with the bumper Opening Night Live event last night, hosted by gaming journalist Geoff Keighley.

The first big announcement was that Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 will launch November 14 with an early access weekend planned for October. A new trailer gave fans a better look at the “mind-bending” follow-up to last year’s Black Ops 6.

It was also confirmed Nintendo Switch 2 owners will be able to play the brilliant Indiana Jones And The Great Circle next year while PC, Xbox and PlayStation gamers will be able to play the Shadow Of The Giants DLC next month. A creepy new trailer for Silent Hill f was also revealed featuring English voice actor Suzie Yeung as Hinako Shimizu and in other horror news, fans got a better look at Resident Evil Requiem which will release February 27, 2026.

The team behind hit game Black Myth: Wukong used Gamescom to announce follow-up Zhong Kui is currently in the early stages of development and teased a DLC for the original game. Find out more about that here

After plenty of delays, a new trailer for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was finally unveiled at Gamescom Opening Night Live alongside an October 21 release date. Check it out below:

Elsewhere, a new cinematic trailer was shared for Lords Of The Fallen 2, the “bloodier, faster and more brutal” sequel to the 2023 original and a new Lego Batman game was announced. Legacy Of The Dark Knight is set to launch next year and will serve as a “love letter” to the franchise – find out more about it here

The latest Warhammer 40k title was revealed during Gamescom 2025’s Opening Night Live showcase. Dawn Of War 4 will be released next year for PC gamers and follow the story of the blood marines. “Battle for planet Kronus as Warhammer 40,000’s ultimate real time strategy game returns, featuring the largest campaign ever with four distinct factions battling it out in epic, brutal large-scale conflicts.”

A two-way “special” crossover between Final Fantasy 14 and Monster Hunter was announced ahead of a September release, Onimusha: Way Of The Sword got a new gameplay trailer and a free demo was confirmed for Daemon x Machina: Titanic Scion. The mecha combat game will launch September 5. 

It was also announced that Deadpool VR is heading to the Meta Quest 3 in November, a huge new update for World Of Tanks will go live next month and Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert announced his new game, Death By Scrolling. Check out the first-look trailer below:

Studio ZA/UM shared a first-look trailer for Zero Parades, their follow-up to cult hit Disco Elysium while anime-inspired rhythm game Unbeatable, Neverness To Everness and Ninja Gaiden 4 also got new trailers. Gamers got a look at all the possible companions that will be available in The Outer Worlds 2 via a new trailer and it was confirmed Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault will enter Steam Early Access on October 23

Expansions for Cult Of The Lamb and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 were also announced. Cult Of The Lamb’s Woolhaven will launch early 2026 while players will be able to access Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Forge DLC next month. A Legends expansion for Ghost Of Yotei will release at some point next year following the game’s launch this October.

The event also gave gamers a first look at Prime Video’s Fallout season two, an anime adaptation of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is heading to Crunchyroll and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 composer Lorien Testard  and voice actor Alice Duport-Percier performed ‘Alicia’ from the game’s soundtrack live for the very first time. 

Later today, Xbox will host the first of two livestreamed presentations while Team Cherry has confirmed a Hollow Knight: Silksong update will be shared tomorrow.
