'Moneyball' Is a Fun Movie, but Terrible History

Bringing together the jocks and nerds, Moneyball is a postmodern sports film. Baseball general manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) is an unlikely hero, lacking any warmth or loyalty, eliminating anyone who didn’t adhere to a math equation. Moneyball celebrates a team that won against the financial odds, outfoxing the richer teams that traditionally stockpiled all the talent. There were no inspirational speeches. The team's motivation? They got sick of losing to the New York Yankees and wanted to see them suffer. A plot everyone can get behind.
