The Rage Against The Machine guitarist has been a critic of President Donald Trump and his Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)’s attacks on immigrants this year.
Since Trump took office, he’s ramped up the widespread detention and deportation of immigrants, with White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt saying earlier this month that a total of 300,000 undocumented immigrants had been detained in the US since January.
In June, raids in Los Angeles led to protests sweeping across the city, leading Trump to controversially deploy the National Guard – a move that garnered significant criticism from detractors, with Governor of California Gavin Newsom slamming it as a “deluded fantasy”.
Morello was one of many figures from the entertainment world who attended the aforementioned protests, and now he’s shared a playlist titled “Fuck ICE”, which he describes as “A rocking little soundtrack to enjoy while you drive those bastards out of your neighbourhood.”
The 65-song playlist features politically charged tracks spanning a diverse range of genres and artists, including Led Zeppelin‘s ‘Immigrant Song’, ‘Icky Thump’ by The White Stripes, Bruce Springsteen‘s ‘American Land’ and Kneecap‘s ‘Get Your Brits Out’. Check out the full playlist below.
Morello was among many musicians attending the protests, with Olivia Rodrigo, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and Finneas – who claimed he had been tear-gassed by the National Guard at a “peaceful” protest in LA – also showing their support for immigrants in the city.
Doechii also her acceptance speech at the BET Awards in June to speak out against Trump’s immigration raids, saying: “I want you all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us,” she added. “What type of government is that?”
Shakira has also said that she lives in “constant fear” as an immigrant in the United States, in light of the continued ICE raids, and Khaby Lame, the world’s biggest TikTok star, also reportedly fled the US after being detained by ICE earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Ethel Cain, Sophie Thatcher and Boy Harsher are among over 100 artists to have joined a campaign calling for the abolition of ICE.
In other news, Morello has condemned the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza, calling on them to “STOP KILLING CHILDREN”.
He has previously praised Kneecap for “speaking truth to power” and for their criticism of the Israeli government, saying the Irish trio are “clearly the Rage Against The Machine of now”. Those comments prompted an angry response from Disturbed’s David Draiman, who called him a “straight up c**t”.
