Buffy the Vampire Sequel Unmasks New Slayer & Sarah Michelle Gellar Teases Familiar Setting

Are you ready to meet the slayer at the helm of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel series?
You’re supposed to answer when Sarah Michelle Gellar summons you to Zoom with an offer to help her save the world.
Ryan Kiera Armstrong did just that on Thursday.
Gellar, who played Buffy Summers in all seven WB/UPN drama series seasons, shared footage from the meeting on Instagram.
“From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side,” Gellar said in a statement.
“To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.”
Ryan Kiera Armstrong Will Play a New Slayer
Writers and executive producers Nora and Lilla Zuckerman added, “We are so overjoyed to have found this generation’s slayer in Ryan Kiera Armstrong.”
“She absolutely blew us away — there is no question in our mind that she is the chosen one.”
Details of a new series set in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe went public earlier this year.
Gellar confirmed the project’s existence shortly thereafter, promising fans that she would only proceed with the new show if it did the original justice.
Far too often, reboots and revivals ruin a well-received project.
Gellar opened up about this worry multiple times in the two decades since her stint as the woman tasked with saving the residents of Sunnydale from the evil forces.
Of course, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series finale found that burden being lifted from Buffy after her friend, Willow, used a spell on a mystical scythe to make everyone who could be a slayer possess the power of one.
It changed the trajectory of the franchise forever, but it’s currently unclear whether that spell will still be intact when the drama starts again.
Will the Buffy The Vampire Slayer Sequel Take Us Back to Sunnydale?
Gellar did make a point of welcoming Ryan to “new Sunnydale,” in the video, indicating that the decimated town that Buffy and the Scooby Gang once called home has either been rebuilt or somewhere else is being called Sunnydale instead.
Gellar could also throw that in as a curveball to have avid fans like me theorizing.
Either way, it’s good news that the show is moving ahead, and Ryan is an inspired choice for the lead role.
A title for the new series has not been confirmed, but there’s a solid chance that “Buffy” will not make the title, at least if rumors are true that Gellar will be a recurring player.
Ryan’s TV credits include American Horror Story: Red Tide and Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew.
The untitled Buffy the Vampire Slayer series is going through a pilot process, which means we should have more names of cast members in the coming months.
Then, once the episode is in the can, Hulu will decide whether the project is worth a spot on its slate.
