‘Elden Ring: Nightreign’ is being made easier for solo players after complaints

The developers of Elden Ring: Nightreign are releasing a new update to make things easier for solo players after numerous complaints.

Nightreign is a co-op spin-off from the hugely popular Elden Ring and was developed to be played as a three-person multiplayer game. However, a solo mode was also included. While the many enemies and bosses have slightly less HP in Nightreign’s solo mode, no other changes have been made to their attack style.

Since the game launched last week, players have been complaining about how tough the game is to play by yourself, while others have struggled with the online matchmaking tool. Now developers FromSoftware have confirmed a patch is coming to fix some of those issues. Taking to social media, they announced “improvements for solo expeditions”.

They went on to say ”the effect ‘Automatic Revival Upon Defeat’, which allows revival once per night boss battle, will be added to solo expeditions” while the amount of runes gained will also be increased, allowing players to level-up quicker.

Elden Ring: Nightreign went offline this morning (9am BST) as the patch went live, and players will be able to return to Limveld at around midday.

Addressing problems with multiplayer matchmaking, the Elden Ring X account suggested PlayStation users double check their “NAT settings” while all players can “try restarting the matchmaking process” to fix any bugs.

Players are still demanding a two-player co-op mode though. Speaking about the lack of two-player mode before the game launched, director Junya Ishizaki said the feature was “simply overlooked” during development. “We’re very sorry about that,” he added (via IGN).

Ishizaki went on to say the main focus was the three-player co-op but they also “put a lot of effort” into creating a solo-player experience. “In putting all our efforts into that aspect, we kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect, but this is something that we are looking at and considering for post-launch support as well.”

In a three-star review, NME wrote: “Ultimately, Nightreign will live or die by the community that grows around it. If you loved the original Elden Ring, Nightreign is a playful reimagining that offers another 40 hours of epic combat. But if you weren’t sold the first time around, there’s nothing here that will change your mind.”

In other news, Alex Garland’s movie adaptation of Elden Ring is reportedly set to star Heartstopper’s Kit Connor.
