Fortnite players criticise “corny” new Kendrick Lamar collab

Fortnite has released a new emote that celebrates Kendrick Lamar’s 2024 smash ‘TV Off’ but many fans are writing the collab off as “corny”.

Three of Kendrick Lamar’s hits feature in Fortnite’s dedicated rhythm game Festival (‘All The Stars’, ‘I’ and ‘HUMBLE.’) and his music has inspired a number of emotes. Following his appearance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, Fortnite released an emote for ‘HUMBLE.’ that was met with mixed reactions from fans.

Now, a new Kendrick Lamar emote has been added to the game. The ‘TV Off’ emote will cost you 500 V Bucks (approximately £3.50) and when used, will see your Fortnite character riding a giant bottle of mustard.

“They stay giving Kendrick the dumbest emotes,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “Yeah, we’re never beating the corny allegations after this one,” said another. “It wouldn’t be as bad if they didn’t add those squelching sound effects. ‘TV Off’ literally has a dance as well,” added a third.

Lamar is currently touring North America with SZA and the pair will be bringing their ‘Grand National’ run to the UK next month. They will play Hampden Park in Glasgow on July 8 and Birmingham’s Villa Park on July 10 as part of a wider European tour. Lamar and SZA will also visit Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on July 19 and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on July 22. Tickets are available here.

Meanwhile, last week Fortnite confirmed an “epic” Sabrina Carpenter dance party following the success of her arrival in the game earlier this year. The special Dance With Sabrina event kicked off on Friday (May 30), with players invited to join the pop star onstage in Fortnite Festival. You have until June 16 to get involved.

Speaking about her previous Fortnite collaboration, Sabrina Carpenter told Rolling Stone: “I’ve always found it exciting for fans to be able to interact and engage with music through different art forms and to interact in a way that’s genuinely fun. So, for the fans that haven’t been able to come to the tour, or to any new fans, this is such a special way to still be a part of ‘Short n’ Sweet’ world.”

Sabrina Carpenter wrapped up the European leg of her world tour earlier this year but will be back in the UK this summer for two gigs at London’s Hyde Park as part of the BST festival series.

In other news, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6’s season 4 went live over the weekend but the new update has apparently ruined the game for many players.
