Kneecap share lively ‘The Recap’ video: “More Blacks, More Dogs, More Irish, Mo Chara”

Kneecap have shared the video for new single ‘The Recap’ – check it out below.
The single was announced by the Belfast hip-hop trio on their WhatsApp group in May, before it was released ahead of their controversial slot at Glastonbury last month which they dedicated to Kemi Badenoch – the current leader of the Conservative Party.
Now, the band have shared the video for the track, which begins with a series of headlines relating to Mo Chara’s arrest and terror offence charge after the group allegedly displayed a flag in support of proscribed terrorist organisation Hezbollah at their O2 Kentish Town Forum gig last year. The band have denied supporting either Hamas or Hezbollah, and consistently argued that the footage had been taken out of context.
It then sees a cartoon figure wearing a balaclava in the Irish flag’s colours jumping on London landmarks before it switches to their show at Glastonbury and it references Helen Wilson, the woman who livestreamed the gig after the BBC decided not to air the set live, and Sharon Osbourne’s recent comments about the band.
Finn Keenan, who directed the video, said: “It took a lot of incredibly talented and passionate people to come together to make this video in just over a week. And I can’t believe the trust and support we got from Kneecap and their team. A once in a lifetime kind of job. So grateful to each and every one of yiz. More Blacks, More Dogs, More Irish, Mo Chara.”
The band plastered billboards around London ahead of Chara’s – real name Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh – appearance at Westminster Magistrates Court over terror charges earlier this month.
They read “More Blacks, More Dogs, More Irish, Mo Chara” – in reference to a discriminatory slogan, “No Blacks, No Irish, No Dogs”, used in the mid-twentieth century to indicate that certain spaces and services were not open to these groups.
Chara appeared at the Westminster Magistrates Court on June 18, where he was granted unconditional bail for the alleged Hezbollah-related charge, and will appear again in person at the court in August.
It was also recently reportedly that the band will not face any further action for their alleged past comments against Conservative MPs.
In May, it was reported that a video from a Kneecap concert in 2023 was under investigation by counter-terrorism police. It was claimed that the video in question contained footage one of the West Belfast trio allegedly said to the crowd: “The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP.”
Meanwhile, the band have also announced plans to release a seven inch version of their new single, which is available from 4.30pm BST today (July 7).
The release is limited to 100 copies and includes both ‘The Recap’ and ‘The Recap (instrumental)’. You can purchase it here.
Over the weekend, Kneecap appeared at a concert alongside Fontaines D.C. at Finsbury Park in London.
They addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding them and continued to speak up for the people of Palestine, while being critical of the UK government.
The band also welcomed Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten onto the stage for a rendition of ‘Better Way To Live’, their 2023 collaboration.
They also addressed the legal issues they have been facing in recent weeks. “It’s nice to be back in London and not be up in court,” Mo Chara said. “It’s been a mad few weeks lads, Jesus fucking Christ. Look at the fucking state of us.”
“It’s inhumane, I’m thinking of new things to say during a genocide,” he continued, before speaking about people in Gaza being starved and bombed from the sky. “It doesn’t matter how big or small our audience is, we will always use our platform.”
Kneecap played to 750 people in Plymouth on Friday night (July 4) and in front of a 45,000 crowd in Finsbury Park, they added: “The message will always be the same: free free Palestine.”
“Kneecap gigs have always been about inclusion so I’d like to ensure all undercover cops have a nice time. You miserable cunts.”
They will play in the capital again at the OVO Arena, Wembley on September 17. Visit here to buy tickets to the gig.
