Martin Scorsese's 'Casino' Has One of the Best Opening Scenes Ever
American director Martin Scorsese is one of the most renowned and influential filmmakers of all time. Although his most well-known films include such masterpieces as Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980), Goodfellas (1990), and The Departed (2006), even many of Scorsese's lesser-known films would be considered masterpieces by any other director. One Scorsese gem, Casino(1995), focuses on the rise and fall of Jewish sports-betting handicapper, Las Vegas casino director, and Mafia associate Sam "Ace" Rothstein (Robert De Niro), who is based on real-life casino magnate Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal.
