Nick Offerman hits out at homophobic ‘Parks And Rec’ fan: “You dumb fuck”

Nick Offerman has hit back at a social media user after they shared a doctored clip of the actor’s Parks And Recreation character Ron Swanson, throwing a rainbow flag into a bin.

Michael Flynn Jr., son of retired Army lieutenant general Michael Flynn, who served as US national security advisor for 22 days during Donald Trump‘s first term before resigning, shared the clip on X on the first day of LGBTQ+ Pride Month, with the caption: “Just wanted to post how I feel about ‘pride’ month.”

The scene, originally appeared in the show’s fourth season episode ‘The Trial of Leslie Knope’ and it depicted Swanson throwing his computer in the trash after becoming enraged by constant intrusions into his online privacy.

But the clip shared by Flynn Jr. saw a superimposed Pride flag over the computer.

The edit resulted in Offerman hitting back at Flynn Jr. for posting the clip.

“Ron was best man at a gay wedding you dumb fuck,” he wrote alongside the hashtag Happy Pride.

The episode that Offerman is referring to is the series finale, ‘One Last Ride’, which included a wedding between two minor characters, Typhoon (Rodney To), Ron’s hairdresser, and Pawnee Parks staffer Craig (Billy Eichner). Swanson served as the former’s best man in the episode.

Following Offerman’s response, Flynn Jr. reposted the clip and said: “Reposting this meme because it apparently triggered the hell out of @Nick_Offerman yesterday. And @Newsweek reached out to me for a comment because Nick threw a hissy fit because he’s your typical beta male Hollywood actor who can’t take a joke. Poor thing. Imagine living a life where a meme pisses you off.”

It comes after the actor previously hit out at “homophobic hate” in reaction to his The Last Of Us season one storyline.

He played the role of Bill in the standalone episode Long, Long Time in the HBO drama, which saw his character try to survive in his hometown as he crosses paths with Frank (Murray Bartlett), with the episode documenting their love story over two decades.

During an acceptance speech at last year’s Spirit Awards, which saw him win an Independent Spirit Award, he said: “Thank you so much Film Independent. I’m astonished to be in this category, which is bananas. Congrats to all of you, this is crazy.

“Thanks to HBO for having the guts to participate in this storytelling tradition that is truly independent.

“Stories with guts that when homophobic hate comes my way and says, ‘Why did you have to make it a gay story?’ We say, ‘Because you ask questions like that. It’s not a gay story it’s a love story, you asshole!’ So more of that.”
