The Nintendo Switch 2 was announced earlier this year in a hardware-focused teaser trailer before more details were revealed in April, during an hour-long presentation. The bigger, more powerful console will feature enhanced graphics, reworked Joy-Con controllers and a lot more memory.
As for new games, the Switch 2 will launch alongside Mario Kart World with new 3D Donkey Kong platformer Banaza coming in July. The Switch 2 will also offer a selection of Gamecube titles to players with an online membership and a number of original Switch games will receive upgrades to take advantage of the new console.
The Switch 2 launches June 5 and excited fans are already celebrating the first new Nintendo console since the 2017 release of the original Switch. “My hype cannot be contained,” one fan wrote on Reddit alongside an image of all the first and third party games they’re excited to play.

“I’m ready to spend a great deal of time with Mario Kart World, relive some GCN memories on NSO, finally play Pokemon Scarlet for longer than five minutes with the improvements, and maybe even grab Deltarune. Oh, and I’ve been playing Fortnite again recently, so I’m looking forward to the Switch 2’s improvements,” explained another player.
“I can’t wait to smell my Switch 2,” wrote another. “Can you imagine the smell of that brand new plastic and the smooth touch of it in your hand. It’s almost here.”

A number of stores have announced plans for a midnight launch for the Switch 2 after many fans have struggled to secure a pre-order for the new console. Even some that did have been told their pre-orders will be cancelled though. In the UK, GAME has said they’re doing “everything” they can to reinstate as many affected orders as possible, but customers are still waiting for an update.
According to industry reports, the Switch 2 could become the fastest selling console of all time, with many expecting it to shift more than 16million units in its first year. This is despite backlash over Nintendo’s new “variable pricing” model for games.
In other news, Fortnite has released a new emote that celebrates Kendrick Lamar’s 2024 smash ‘TV Off’ but many fans are writing the collab off as “corny”.
