Nintendo has revealed more information about the Switch 2, including a new feature that will stop the console’s battery charging at 90 per cent.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is due to launch next month (June 5, 2025) and Nintendo has been drip-feeding information about the bigger, more powerful console via their new app.

The latest update is all about the Switch 2’s battery life. According to Nintendo, the Switch 2 will stop charging when its battery is 90 per cent charged. “Pausing the charge at around 90 per cent reduces deterioration to the battery,” they explained, alongside a video showcasing the new feature.

The Stop Charging Around 90 Per Cent feature can be toggled on and off in the system settings of the Switch 2.

According to Nintendo, the Switch 2 will feature a Lithium ion battery that will provide gamers with between two and six hours of playtime “depending on the games you play and usage conditions”. A full charge will take roughly three hours, if the console is in sleep mode. The internal battery also can’t be removed, with owners needing to contact Nintendo Customer Support if there’s an issue.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will launch with a library of 21 titles, including Mario Kart World and upgraded versions of The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Hogwarts Legacy

The company has also confirmed players will be able to lend their digital games to a mate using the new GameShare feature, which will be available for both the original Switch and the Switch 2.

The Switch 2 is set for release June 5 and is expected to become the fastest-selling console of all time. However a number of fans are struggling to pre-order Nintendo’s latest bit of kit while others are flooding eBay with fake listings to stop scalpers selling them for inflated prices.

In other news, the title of The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel has been revealed – and gaming fans are stoked.
