Nourished By Time takes us on an imaginative journey in exclusive playlist to accompany The Cover

NME’s latest star of The Cover, Nourished By Time, has put together an exclusive playlist to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.

The Baltimore experimentalist is on this week’s (July 7) edition of The Cover, a manifestation of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read Nourished By Time’s profile here, written by Patrick Clarke and featuring photography by Chris Buck.

Nourished By Time has curated a transportative playlist to accompany The Cover, titled ‘Imagine You’re 7’4, 520 Pounds Born 1946 In A Small Town In France’. His selections include tracks from Lil Wayne, Kilo Kish, Turnstile, The Beatles, Immature and A.G. Cook, among others. Listen to it in full on Spotify below and on Apple Music.

Nourished By Time – aka Baltimore musician Marcus Brown – has always had “a supreme confidence in myself that I can do anything I set my mind to”, but wasn’t always sure that his talents would find recognition in his lifetime. “I always knew that I had potential, I just thought I might be dead by the time it happened,” he told NME.

In The Cover, the artist discussed how his anti-capitalist beliefs conflict with the modern music industry. “Most of my beliefs are aligned with the basic Marxist truths that the workers should own the means of their production,” he said. “I worry, especially the way I feel about streaming, the fact I don’t support the way artists are being paid out. But then I remedy it by thinking, ‘I can speak my mind, criticise who I want to criticise. The minute that would have to become sacrificed, then that’s my ceiling.’”
