The last mainline Resident Evil game was 2021’s Village. The survival game served as the sequel to 2017’s Biohazard and focused more on action, with a greater emphasis on fighting hordes of undead monsters. Since then, publishers Capcom have released the ambitious remake of Resident Evil 4.
There have been rumours about the long-awaited Resident Evil 9 for a number of years now but according to industry insiders, an official announcement could be imminent.
Taking to X, leaker Dusk Golem said they were “95 per cent positive” the game would be revealed at Summer Games Fest 2025. “It’s not like I can give 100 per cent confirmation [because] no one’s directly told me. [There’s] a lot of buzz behind the scenes [and] lots of rumblings.”
They went on to say it’s the sort of activity that happens before a new Resident Evil game is announced. “I’d say if you’re tuning into Summer Game Fest on June 6 hoping that Resident Evil 9 will show up, there’s an incredibly high chance you won’t be disappointed. I’m getting into hype mode for it myself.”

Summer Games Fest is hosting a showcase on Friday (June 6). It will be available to watch via their official YouTube channel from 9pm BST and is expected to feature a number of big announcements.
“This may just be one of the greatest weeks for gamers in a long time,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “I’m really curious to see where they take the next one. I’m hoping that they go back to something smaller scale, but completely terrifying like Resident Evil 7,” added another. “Really looking forward to this one and cautiously optimistic it won’t be this generation’s Resident Evil 6,” said a third.
Earlier this year, it was reported a “faithful” Resident Evil reboot movie was in the works from Barbarian creator Zach Cregger. Sony are also working on a live-action adaptation of Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn alongside an anime adaptation of Ghost Of Tsushima, which is set to premiere in 2027.
In other news, the bumper 334-song The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom soundtrack is finally available to stream.
