Daniel Kaluuya is developing a spin-off for his Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse character, Spider-Punk, for a new animated film.

The British Oscar winner, known for his roles in Get Out and Black Panther, voiced the character of Spider-Punk, a Spider-Man variant from an alternative universe, based on the comic book portrayals that started in 2015. The hero, real name Hobie Brown, is from Camden in the movie, just like the actor who portrays him.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Kaluuya is developing and co-writing an animated feature alongside Ajon Singh, who penned the script for the upcoming thriller Primetime starring Robert Pattinson. Further details are under wraps at the moment, but it is assumed that the actor will once again voice the title character.

The news comes as the third and final part of the Spider-Verse trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, has been delayed once again. The concluding chapter was originally due to premiere in March 2024. However, due to several delays – in part due to 2023’s SAG-AFTRA strike – work on the animated film was halted, and it was removed from Sony’s release schedule altogether.

Earlier this year, Sony Pictures confirmed that the film would finally hit cinemas worldwide on June 4, 2027. However, in July, an article from The Hollywood Reporter revealed the film was being pushed back – though only by a few weeks this time. It is reportedly now scheduled for June 25, and will maintain its 2027 launch plans.

Last September, it was revealed that Daniel Kaluuya will be getting a statue in London’s Leicester Square commemorating his famous scene from Get Out. He was chosen to be immortalised after a poll of 5,000 British film fans voted for the person they most wanted to see as part of the Scenes in the Square trail in Leicester Square. Kaluuya won 20 per cent of the vote.
