The Morning Show Season 4 Trailer Shockingly Sidesteps Trump’s Re-election
If you were waiting for The Morning Show to take on the last US Presidential Election, which saw Donald Trump return to power, that might not happen.
After two long years and an underwhelming third season, The Morning Show returns for Season 4 with fresh stories, among them AI and deepfakes.
But outside the newsroom, more drama is brewing as UBA UBN falls under the stewardship of those who have long been denied it, but they also don’t know how to handle it.
Apple TV+ has released a dramatic trailer featuring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon reprising their roles as Alex and Bradley for even more intense storylines.
The trailer previews the new state of UBN, where Alex has taken over the leadership, women are at the helm, and promises are made.
However, even women have histories and intersecting identities that pull their priorities in different directions.
“You pitched UBN as a feminist utopia where women lift each other up,” Mia says with a hint of exasperation in her voice.
The utopia was overstated because she’s getting the same treatment she’s always received.
The Morning Show Season 4 opens in spring 2024, almost two years after the events of Season 3.
With the UBA-NBN merger complete, the newsroom must grapple with newfound responsibility, hidden motives, and the elusive nature of truth in a polarized America.
In a world rife with deepfakes, conspiracy theories, and corporate cover-ups — who can you trust?
And how can you know what’s actually real?
More Drama Beckons in The Morning Show Season 4
The two paragraphs above are from the season’s official description, but what they don’t tell you is that there are new faces and familiar ones return.
For some reason, despite having a lackluster arc in The Morning Show Season 3, billionaire Paul Marks is back.
Is it going to be interesting this time around, or did someone need Jon Hamm’s name attached to the season?
The show also leans into the soapiness of the situation as sparks fly between new characters and old ones. “It sounds like the drama at the network is juicier than the drama on the network,” someone says.
To say that there will be drama is an understatement.
The new and improved UBN is not free of scandal, as with her neck on the line, Alex becomes who she has railed against all these years.
Will Bradley fall in line? And there’s the FBI involved? Oh, this is going to be fun.
It would have been even more fun if the show had touched on Trump’s historic win, but Hollywood was waiting with bated breath to see what scripts should look like depending on who’s in the highest seat in the office.
And The Morning Show has decided to focus on everything pertinent to today’s world except the most relevant thing to Americans.
The decision not to tackle Trump’s re-election in the trailer is a double-edged sword. On one hand, centering the story around such a polarizing figure could risk alienating viewers before the season even begins.
On the other hand, skirting around it feels almost evasive for a show that has spent years entangling itself with Trump-era politics. From a purely strategic standpoint, though, it makes sense.
If the majority of Americans voted for Trump and already believe news organizations lean too far into bias, Apple TV+ has a conundrum on its hands.
It could lean in and risk alienating a huge portion of the potential audience, or sidestep and hope the drama speaks for itself.
Will The Morning Show pull viewers in, or will sidestepping the Trump factor leave it feeling out of step? That’s the gamble Apple TV+ is rolling with — and it’ll depend on who shows up for the ride.
Will you be tuning in? And if you’re already craving shows that lean into the difficult stuff, check out our coverage of Paradise and more TV drama that’s unafraid to go there.
This could be a great season, and they could include the Trump of it all. We’ll just have to wait and see.
New episodes drop weekly, starting September 17 and continuing through November 19, and we’ll be covering it episodically along the way.
