The show premiered on September 13, 1990, and completed its original run (20th season) on May 24, 2010. On September 28, 2021, after a lengthy 11-year hiatus, NBC announced that it would be revived for new seasons. It now continues to be the flagship show of Dick Wolf’s Universe, even with the presence of equally popular shows like Law & Order: SVU.
