‘Gen V’ season two set for September premiere, releases intense trailer

Gen V

The second season of The Boys spin-off Gen V has been locked in for a September premiere date – find out more below.

Prime Video has unveiled a teaser trailer for Gen V season two, which sees the gang of Marie, Emma and Jordan reluctantly returning to Godolkin University, now under the regime of incoming dean Cipher.

Cipher executes a new curriculum for his students, training them as “soldiers” in a war against humans, while Cate and Sam are celebrated as heroes. Cue clips of gory brawls and high drama, and the teaser ends with a preview of what seems to be an all-out uprising.

Watch the teaser below.

Gen V season two is set to premiere its first three episodes on Prime Video on September 17. Subsequent episodes will then arrive weekly until the season’s conclusion on October 22.

While we get glimpses of several characters from The Boys in the Gen V season two trailer, it’s yet to be seen if core characters like Homelander, Butcher and more will make appearances.

Elsewhere in the trailer, actor Chance Perdomo’s absence in season two is addressed, hinting at a larger storyline. Perdomo, who played Andre in season one, was due to return for season two before he tragically died in a motorcycle crash in March last year at the age of 27. Following his death, Prime Video confirmed that they would not be recasting his role, and were instead going to “recraft” its storyline to navigate his passing.

In the teaser for season two, we see Andre’s father Polarity fuming over his son’s suspicious disappearance at the hands of Vought. In a tense moment, Polarity demands that dean Cipher reveal what “really happened” to him.

Gen V season two stars Jaz Sinclair as Marie Moreau, Lizze Broadway as Emma Meyer, Maddie Phillips as Cate Dunlap, London Thor and Derek Luh as Jordan Li, Asa Germann as Sam Riordan and Sean Patrick Thomas as Polarity.

Gen V is set in the same universe as The Boys, and follows a group of young “supes” (people gifted with special abilities) as they enrol at Godolkin University, where they are taught to hone their abilities in order to be shaped into the next generation of superheroes.

In a four-star review of the first seasonNME’s Ali Shutler wrote that “Gen V is confidently its own thing. It’s comfortable sitting in the shadow of The Boys for the time being and while the gory humour might feel familiar, this smart, sleek spin-off is never less than exciting.”
