Haley Joel Osment arrested for “public intoxication” at California ski resort

Haley Joel Osment was arrested at a ski resort earlier this month in Mammoth Lakes, California.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the child star of The Sixth Sense and A.I.: Artificial Intelligence was identified by the local police department as an “unruly skier” and was held by ski patrol until police arrived to arrest him.
The cause of the arrest was said to be alleged public intoxication and possession of an unidentified controlled substance. Osment is no longer in custody and charges have yet to be filed, with the Mono County district attorney now determining whether to prosecute the case.
The actor, who turned 37 last week, earned an Oscar nomination at the age of 11 for his role as Cole Sear, the child who could see dead people in M. Night Shyamalan’s hit 1999 movie The Sixth Sense.
As an adult, Osment has continued acting, appearing in shows such as What We Do In The Shadows and Silicon Valley, while he also starred in Zoe Kravitz’ acclaimed psychological thriller Blink Twice in 2024, alongside Naomi Ackie, Channing Tatum, Christian Slater and Kyle MacLachlan.
He is also scheduled to take up a role in the upcoming second season of Netflix’s hit series Wednesday and he is currently appearing in season two of Poker Face.
Last year, he spoke of his memories of coming home to voicemail messages from his Sixth Sense co-star Bruce Willis in the years following the film.
“He would just call out of the blue, so sometimes it was in the lead up before travel,” Osment said. “We went to Japan together twice, if I remember correctly, to open Sixth Sense in different cities. So he would call ahead of that, and then sometimes, I would just come home from school and the answering machine would be blinking and it’d be him going like, ‘Hey, Haley Joel. Just saying hi.’”
Osment also responded to being namechecked by Kendrick Lamar on the Drake diss track ‘Euphoria’ last year. “Am I battlin’ ghost or AI?” Kendrick quipped in the song’s second verse. “N**** feelin’ like Joel Osteen/ Funny, he was in a film called A.I./ And my sixth sense tellin’ me to off him.”
“I was shooting in Ireland when all that happened, and I got like a hundred texts in the middle of the night, and I was like, ‘What is going on?’,” he said. Asked whether he thought K.Dot knew that the two similarly-named people were not the same, he added: “I think that it’s an intentional scrambling of my name and that other guy’s name, because Kendrick’s too precise to just make a mistake like that, I think.”
