Here is why ‘GTA 6’ isn’t coming to PS4 and Xbox One

GTA 6 is finally on the horizon with a firm release date, and the recent trailer has posed questions about if it will come to PS4 and Xbox One.
Here is what we know about the upcoming release of the game and its platforms, and why a last-generation release is unlikely to ever happen.
GTA 6 isn’t coming to PS4 and Xbox One because the consoles simply wouldn’t be able to run the open-world game. It is only being released on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S initially.
GTA 6 is one of the most ambitious games we have ever seen and could be the biggest entertainment launch of all time. We are coming up on five years into this console generation. At some point, the demanding nature of games on hardware surpasses what is possible on older consoles, and we are at that point with GTA 6.
We have already seen the industry move away from older consoles and focus on the new console platforms more with releases, and five years in, we aren’t seeing many old generation and new generation co-releases in 2025 and 2026. There was already a slowdown last year.
Therefore, there is no chance that GTA 6 will be released at any point on these older consoles. As for PC, that will likely happen, as we have seen with most other Rockstar games’ titles. Fingers crossed, we could see a GTA 6 Nintendo Switch 2 release as well, even down the line.
