Kneecap tease incoming new single ‘The Recap’: “Yis don’t wanna miss this one”

Kneecap have started teasing a new single called ‘The Recap’. Find out more below.
The Irish hip-hop trio took to social media today (May 16) to reveal they have new material on the way. Posting on Instagram, they shared a photo that said: ‘The Recap’, and wrote in the caption that it was an upcoming single.
“Well well a chairde Gael! Back to what it’s all about,” they said. “We’ve a brand new tune out next week that’s [fire]. We’re dropping it before anywhere else on our WhatsApp channel…yis don’t wanna miss this one…”
The post also told fans to visit the link in their bio to join the WhatsApp mailing list, where the song will be shared before it arrives on streaming platforms.
The new update also comes weeks after the group made a separate update on socials hinting at new music.
At the start of the month, they posted a photo on X/Twitter alongside the caption: “New track coming soon….stay tuned…lock down your aerial.” No further details about the song were shared, although the last part of the caption left some fans on X convinced that the new material may include a collaboration with Mike Skinner of The Streets.
This is because “lock down your aerial” is a lyric featured in The Streets’ 2002 song ‘Has It Come To This?’. As well as that, both Kneecap and Skinner were set to take to the stage at the Eden Sessions on July 4, although this date was later cancelled due to controversy surrounding Kneecap.
It has not been confirmed whether or not Mike Skinner feature on the forthcoming single. More details are set to be announced shortly, and you can visit here to be the first to hear the song when it drops.

The song will be some of the first new music from Kneecap since the trio released their huge debut album ‘Fine Art’ last year. When it was shared, NME gave the LP a five-star review and wrote: “In the dark of the night out, the moment is all that matters and the rave will set you free. To shout that in a ‘dying’ language on a record that couldn’t sound any more alive? That’s power – and Kneecap have it”.
‘Fine Art’ made the NME list of The 10 Best Debut Albums of 2024, and led to the band storming some of the biggest stages across the world, including Glastonbury, Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show, and headline shows across the UK, Ireland, the US and Australia.
Since it arrived, Kneecap have also shared a groundbreaking, critically-acclaimed film, starring Michael Fassbender. It arrived in cinemas back in August, and led to the hip-hop stars nabbing BAFTA nominations and two Oscar nods.
They have not shared any new material yet in 2025, although January did see the members drop multiple remixes of the fan favourite track ‘H.O.O.D’.
Speaking to NME at Reading & Leeds 2024, Kneecap told us about what they have planned for the future. “New music? Fuck, definitely,” Mo Chara said, and Móglaí Bap added: “We’ve already started. We’re working on different collaborations, working with different genres, different languages.”
“We’re going back to the music now, because we’ve been doing the movie for the last six months – talking, talking, talking, talking, talking,” he added. “Talking about music we don’t mind, but the movie has been very strenuous. We want to go back, make music, have a bit of craic in the studio, and get back to our roots.”
News of new music comes as Kneecap have found themselves at the centre of controversy in recent weeks. Attention around the band gained momentum after their set at Coachella 2025, where they supposedly “blindsided” festival organisers by projecting the slogan “Fuck Israel, Free Palestine” onto the screen behind them, led chants from the audience, and gave a speech about their support for Gaza.
Backlash continued when footage from previous live shows resurfaced and showed the members appearing to both support Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as call on fans to “kill their local MP”. Footage from the shows has become the subject of attention from counter-terror police in the UK, while the divisive set at Coachella led to calls from Sharon Osbourne to have their working visa revoked.
The trio have denied supporting either Hamas or Hezbollah, and denied promoting violence against MPs. “Let us be unequivocal: we do not, and have never, supported Hamas or Hezbollah. We condemn all attacks on civilians, always. It is never OK. We know this more than anyone, given our nation’s history,” they shared. “We also reject any suggestion that we would seek to incite violence against any MP or individual. Ever. An extract of footage, deliberately taken out of all context, is now being exploited and weaponised, as if it were a call to action.”
The band have not had their visas revoked, and the police investigation is still ongoing. The controversy, however, has meant that various live shows and festival appearances have been cancelled.
Many have shared their support for Kneecap and the “freedom of expression” – including Tom Morello, Brian Eno, Pulp, Fontaines D.C. and more, who all signed an open letter to protect freedom of expression. One of the most vocal acts backing the trio is Massive Attack – who themselves have been ardent supporters for Palestine for decades and have boycotted performing in Israel since 1999.
