Lana Del Rey has shared a message of support for those affected by the Texas flash floods, as well as addressing the “heartbreaking” death toll amid the ongoing war in Gaza.

On Monday (July 7), the singer joined the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Shakira, Billie Eilish and more in paying tribute to victims of the devastating flash floods that have affected central Texas, with 110 people confirmed to have died at the time of writing.

Many of those killed were children attending an all-girl Christian summer camp for the Fourth of July holiday weekend, with the singer-songwriter saying she was “so sorry for everyone who’s going through this”.

Several months of rainfall fell in the space of a few hours after the Guadalupe River burst its banks on July 4, with experts describing it as one of the worst freak weather accidents of the last 100 years.

“We’ve been thinking of you every day since the floods,” Del Rey wrote in her post. “All of my prayers are with you every moment of the day this week, and may all the angels be with you as you search for even more lost loved ones. It’s truly unprecedented, and I can’t even imagine it.”

Her message prompted fans in the comments section to question why she had not yet addressed the ongoing humanitarian crisis unfolding in Palestine. Per News Week, she previously joined a host of entertainment world figures in signing an open letter to then-President Joe Biden calling for the release of hostages taken by Hamas.

Israel has been carrying out a full-scale military campaign on occupied Gaza for almost two years, following the October 2023 attack by Hamas at the Israeli music festival Supernova where 1,195 people were killed.

The UN has found Israel’s military actions to be consistent with genocide, and at least 55,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to the Gaza Health Ministry (via AP). As the conflict continues to escalate, Israel continues to deny allegations of genocide and war crimes against the people of Palestine, in the wake of the October 7 attacks.

“Of course we pray for Palestine every day,” Del Rey wrote in response to fans questioning why she was speaking out about the floods but not the crisis in Gaza.

“I wish for peace between all nations and am constantly up on all of the news between the Israel Palestine conflict. I was very hopeful when we were getting close to a peace treaty,” she said.

“And that was my greatest wish as I’ve watched the news unfold from a far. It’s always difficult to watch any innocent victims killed by crimes of war. There is never a good way of wording things that will make all people happy but that is my personal truth.

“Politically I do keep up and have been very much hoping for cease fire. This is a long ongoing conflict and one I’ve studied hard to understand. It’s heartbreaking and unfathomable to think there hasn’t been a way to find some resolution. It’s a topic of conversation in many of my daily conversations and we’re constantly considering what we can do to contribute in all situations like this. I always have been.”
