Marvel Favorite's Remake of a Classic 1989 Black Comedy Fights to a Disappointing Box Office Debut
Sometimes, when you play a well-known and beloved character in one franchise, it's a challenge getting people to view you as someone else in a different role. Actors who play Marvel superheroes, for example, have been in a plethora of other projects, but none seem to be as big as their classic characters. Benedict Cumberbatch, who portrays Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has starred in many other non-Doctor Strange roles, such as Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock (TV series), Alan Turing in The Imitation Game, and more, with Theo Rose in The Roses being his most recent. The film, released in theaters on August 29, 2025, isn't performing well at the box office, but its sales are slowly increasing.
