Meghan Trainor fans react after she changes lyrics to ‘All About That Bass’: “She shouldn’t be allowed to sing this song anymore”

Meghan Trainor has got fans talking after swapping lyrics in ‘All About That Bass’ to highlight changes to her physical appearance.

The moment took place at the singer’s headline performance at iHeartRadio’s KIIS-FM Wango Tango event last weekend, where she broke out a slightly different version of her 2014 hit.

In the first verse of the track, she swapped out the original line “Yeah, it’s pretty clear, I ain’t no size two”, to “Yeah, it’s pretty clear, I got some new boobs.” It came as a nod to her undergoing a breast augmentation and lift earlier this year.

The move to change the lyrics, however, left some fans in the comment section divided – particularly as the original lyrics were intended to promote body positivity.

“I feel like she shouldn’t be allowed to sing this song anymore […] her body doesn’t represent the song anymore,” one person on TikTok wrote, while another added: “Big is beautiful until you’re rich enough to change it — story of the entertainment industry”.

Others in the comment section on TikTok shared that they thought the change to the song was ironic, while someone else said: “I feel she just morally shouldn’t perform this song anymore.”

However, some were less critical of the singer – who has previously been open about her use of the diabetes drug Mounjaro to lose weight (via The Independent) – saying that the message of positivity still remains.

“It’s all about ‘body positivity’ until a woman makes changes that help her feel good in her body after having two kids,” one user wrote, while someone else shared: “Hating her for being big. Now hating her for being skinny! This just proves you can never fit society’s prosomas!”

“The amount of people that are hating on her for losing weight is crazy,” another added. “11 years ago she made a song. She now has two kids and wants to be healthy for them. Stop, just stop.”

A fourth fan came to the singer’s defence and said: “She made the song so you wouldn’t be ashamed of your weight. If she feels like she would feel healthier if she lost it, then that’s what she’ll do, doesn’t mean she feels ashamed of her weight, just means she wants to be healthy.

“The songs are made so that you won’t feel ashamed or insecure about your weight.”

This isn’t the first time that Trainor’s appearance has been the subject of discussion on social media. Last month, the ‘Been Like This’ singer shared an Instagram post hitting out at the comments about her appearance when receiving the Hitmaker Award at the Billboard Women in Music ceremony.

“It’s a little disheartening that so many of the questions (and comments) were focused on my body instead of my music, my passion, or the decade of hard work that got me here,” she wrote.

“This is what it’s like to be a woman in the music industry,” she continued. “No, I don’t look like I did 10 years ago. I’ve been on a journey to be the healthiest, strongest version of myself for my kids and for me.”

Before then, she shared a cautionary tale to listeners thinking about cosmetic surgery on her Workin’ On It podcast, revealing that she “cannot smile anymore” after having Botox.
