Friday the 13th was released in theaters on May 13, 1980, just over 45 years ago, and since then, it has become one of the most iconic horror franchises of all time, with the slasher Jason Voorhees becoming a pop culture icon. However, due to various rights issues, Jason has been absent from the big screen since 2009. In 2024, Horror Inc. announced plans for Jason Universe, a multimedia expansion of the Friday the 13th franchise.
