Nick Frost hits out at J. K. Rowling over trans views following Harry Potter TV show casting

Nick Frost has spoken about author J.K. Rowling’s anti-Trans views ahead of playing Hagrid in the new Harry Potter TV show.
J.K. Rowling, the creator of Harry Potter, has become a divisive figure since 2019, as she has regularly used her platform to share her Anti-Transgender views. Recently, she also recently posted on X (formerly Twitter) mocking the Asexual community, and openly declared a recent Supreme Court ruling about single sex spaces as a victory for gender critical people.
Given her reputation, cast members announced for the new Harry Potter TV show have been criticised by some for being connected to such a figure. John Lithgow, who will play Professor Dumbledore in the show, admitted to being surprised by the backlash, while Frost suspended comments on the post announcing his casting, with users leaving comments on other posts criticising his decision to join the show.
Speaking to The Observer, the actor mentioned turning off his Instagram comments but made it clear he does not share her views. “She’s allowed her opinion and I’m allowed mine, they just don’t align in any way, shape or form”.

He was then asked if the author’s actions may cast a shadow over the show. “I don’t know,” he adding: “But maybe it shouldn’t blow over? We shouldn’t just hope it will go away, because it makes it easier. Maybe we should educate ourselves”.
HBO’s TV adaptation of the books is set to debut next year. In late May, the three key roles were announced, with Dominic McLaughlin set to play Harry, Arabella Stanton portraying Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout taking on the role of Ron Weasley.
Recently, Nick Frost revealed he is “going to be very protective” of the core Harry Potter cast. “I’m a dad myself, so I am going to be very protective to the children,” he said, adding: “and I think that is Hagrid’s — one of the kind of baselines of his relationship with those children”.
