Parker Posey Was the Best Part of The White Lotus Season 3 (Despite Her Horrendous Accent)

We can all agree that this past season of The White Lotus had one of the most newsworthy plots of the series. However, it would be great if the show didn’t resort to such gimmicky storytelling.

To be fair, I doubt many people use “gimmicky” to describe the show, but what else do you call having an incest scene between two brothers?

At least there was one part of the show that did not disappoint.

For whatever reason, The White Lotus shines best with as many over-the-top characters as possible. Both sadly and thankfully, Parker Posey was the only character that fit that bill.

If this was your first time experiencing Miss Posey, I can only imagine the things going through your head as she busted out that southern twang.

From Vampire Fangs to Looking for Her Lorazepam, Parker Posey Can Do It All

First and foremost, it has to be said that Parker Posey is not your run-of-the-mill actor, either. That woman is nuttier than a squirrel up a tree, and that’s saying something in Hollywood.

Oddly, my first experience with the actress was with her role in the Wesley Snipes-led movie Blade: Trinity, where she played Danica Talos.

In that role, her campy atmosphere and general quirky qualities perfectly contrasted with her aggressive vampiric aesthetic.

However, like on The White Lotus, Parker Posey was one of the only good things about that film. If you ask me, most people don’t like the third Blade because it doesn’t have the same feel as the first two.

The first two Blades were light despite the constant blood and carnage. Wesley Snipes (The Player) seemed miserable throughout the third movie.

Even if the movie was a bust, you will thank me after watching the scene where Parker Posey’s character interrogates a shirtless and very chiseled Ryan Reynolds.

All this is to say that the actress brings her own flavor of humor to every role she takes on and has a chameleon-like ability to adapt to any comedy genre.

It’s just such a shame Blade: Trinity wasn’t a bigger hit at the time. Do you think Natasha Lyonne looks back on that film and cringes at her role in it?

At least no one was engaging in adult relations with a family member. Wow, that somehow makes The White Lotus plot sound so much worse.

Parker Posey Brought What Was Sorely Missing from the White Lotus Season 3, but It Wasn’t Enough to Carry the Season

What exactly was it about Parker Posey’s character that made her stand out so much? Well, to answer that, we first have to admit that all the other characters were boring as hell.

Honestly, if it hadn’t been for the incest, I doubt The White Lotus Season 3 would have made any headlines at all. It was such a departure from the previous seasons for a multitude of reasons.

The show’s central theme revolves around the petty but complicated lives of the rich people who can afford to stay at the resort.

The White Lotus Season 1 captured all this perfectly without resorting to some truly bonkers character arcs. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Posey brought to the show what was missing because of Jennifer Coolidge‘s absence, what with her character being dead and all.

The story needs to have an obvious level of camp; otherwise, everything feels like petty drama that leaves us wondering why we’re watching the show in the first place.

Honestly, if it had not been for Posey, I probably would not have finished the season.

However, I’m glad I did because I have not stopped walking around, saying, “I don’t even have my lorazepam. I’m gonna have to drink myself to sleep.”

Been there, girl. Been there.

That woman needed meds to fall asleep at a luxury resort in Thailand. I’m pretty sure they pump Xanax into the water.

As out of touch with reality as most of the characters were, no one could hold a candle to Parker’s Victoria, who just doesn’t have it in her to live an uncomfortable life.

The best part was watching Victoria glide into every scene, completely clueless about her husband slowly going insane and thinking about killing the family.

This had to be the easiest acting job of Jason Isaacs’s (The Great) career. He spent the majority of his time just spaced out on anxiety meds.

Hey, do you think the production team secretly gives actors samples of the stuff they’re pretending to take to allow them an accurate performance?

Do you think Jason Isaacs tried a little lorazepam to see how he should act? Just something I think about.

And The White Lotus Season 3 could have really benefited from a little more thinking.

The White Lotus Tried to Create More Complex Stories with Disastrous Storytelling Results

(Fabio Lovino/HBO)

There really hasn’t been much positive sentiment regarding The White Lotus Season 3.

The characters were bland, the drama was dull, and the danger felt misplaced in the story and forced.

Also, what the hell was up with Walton Goggins‘s Timothy Ratliff? Tim was one of the most frustrating killjoys of the season. He’s right up there with Greg.

Tim’s character arc was way too convoluted to keep track of, let alone care. Let me see if I have this right. He went to Thailand to find the man who killed his father and murdered him, but that guy turned out to be his real dad.

That was the WRONG kind of seasonal story to go with for a character that didn’t make it past the finale. The amount of context needed to be invested was nowhere in sight.

Besides, who could pay attention to anything after Sam Rockwell’s (Fosse/Verdon) monologue?

I can barely remember what he said, but by the time he was done, I couldn’t open my eyes any wider than they already were.

We needed more from Tim’s character and so, so, so much less from Michelle Monaghan‘s Jaclyn and her group of gossiping gals.

Every scene between Michelle Monaghan, Leslie Bibb, and Carrie Coon’s (The Gilded Age) characters felt like watching three mean girls from high school try to keep up their fake friendships in adulthood.

I hate to say it, but besides Parkey Posey and her hilarious country-fried accent, The White Lotus Season 3 was a flop.

To be fair, it was always going to be hard to top Aubrey Plaza from The White Lotus Season 2.
