The remake of Walt Disney’s groundbreaking 1937 film has bounced from one controversy to the next from the moment it was announced, leading to the $270 million remake limped through cinemas this spring with a domestic haul barely topping $100 million and overseas numbers that couldn’t manage to pick up the slack. But now, it has easily become a Disney+ chart hit as everyone who dodged it in cinemas jumped in to see whether that 40% RT score was justified.
