Rian Johnson has had an interesting and diverse career since his feature directorial debut with Brick in 2005. The filmmaker has explored various genres with his sci-fi time travel thriller Looper, the caper-comedy drama The Brothers Bloom, and eventually directed Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi, the second film in Disney and Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy. Despite mixed audience reception, the movie received acclaim from critics, with Lucasfilm also announcing that he was developing his own trilogy in November 2017.
