The Nintendo Switch 2 was announced earlier this year in a hardware-focused teaser trailer before more details were revealed in April, during an hour-long presentation. The bigger, more powerful console will feature enhanced graphics, reworked Joy-Con controllers and a lot more memory.
Over the past few weeks, Nintendo has been revealing more about the consola via their new Nintendo news app. The company has also shared an updated health & safety information booklet.
As part of the pack, Nintendo has revealed some “careful usage” tips which warns users about an in-build screen protector. “The screen is covered with a film layer designed to prevent fragments scattering in the event of damage. Do not peel it off,” warned Nintendo (via NintendoSoup).

“Didn’t notice the same layer on the OLED in the entire time I’ve owned it. Zero chance I’d have noticed on the Switch 2 either if no-one told me,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “If the protector doesn’t come off easily like the peel-off ones for shipping, don’t peel it off. Seen many videos of people ruining various screens that way,” added another.
As part of the regular info dumps, Nintendo has revealed that the Switch 2 will stop charging when its battery is 90 per cent charged. “Pausing the charge at around 90 per cent reduces deterioration to the battery,” they explained, alongside a video showcasing the new feature. However this feature can be turned off. They’ve also warned that the game cartridges taste horrible.
Speaking to Gamespot, Nintendo’s Takuhiro Dohta said: “We don’t want anybody to be at risk of any unwanted consumption. We have indeed made it so that if it enters your mouth, you’ll spit it out.” He went on to advise curious fans not to lick the Switch 2 game cartridges to see just how terrible they taste. “When the Nintendo Switch was being developed, I did lick it once, but never again. I can’t believe that other people are trying that.”
In other news, the bumper The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom soundtrack is finally available to stream via the Nintendo Music app. Both Tears Of The Kingdom and Breath Of The Wild will be getting Switch 2 upgrades this week to take advantage of the bigger, more powerful console.
