Will there be a ‘You’ season six?

With fans bingeing on season five of the Netflix psychological thriller series You, can they expect to see a season six? Read on to find out.
You stars Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg, a serial killer prone to monologuing voiceover, often found trying to fit in with the elite of New York, LA and most recently London. Season five sees him back in the Big Apple, living a new life with wife Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) before his dark past inevitably catches up with him.
That dark past includes the murder of 22 people throughout the five seasons of the show – check out a list of all Joe’s victims here.
All 10 episodes of season five arrived on Netflix on April 24, and the reviews have been mixed, with some critics dishing out some scathing reviews, going as far as to describe it as “insultingly rubbish”, arguing that “fans deserve better”.
Will there be a You season six?
No, there will not be any more seasons of You. When Netflix announced they had renewed the show for this fifth season in 2023, they confirmed at that time that it would be the show’s final run.
The decision was made collectively with the show’s creators, with executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter saying: “Ever since our friends at Alloy shared Caroline Kepnes’ fantastic book, we have always conceived it as a five-season journey.”
Showrunners Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo recently reflected on bringing the show to a close, telling Tudum: “It was truly a unicorn experience and an absolute career highlight for both of us.”
Badgley recently spoke to Jennifer Hudson on her talk show about this being the final season. He said: “I’m not sad that it’s over. We’re sending him off in, I think, the best fashion we can.
“But I will inevitably miss him. I’ve gotten to do a lot of bizarre things, a lot of intense things. I understand it’s a lot of fun to watch, but I have to ground that insanity, and in a person that’s ultimately so hateful. I can put him to bed, but kind of like a dysfunctional little brother, I’ll miss him a little.
“It’s a very satisfying ending, and that in and of itself is hard. How can you send off a man and a story like that? It does justice to the character, to the show, but also to the viewer.”
