Ambitious ‘Blade Runner’ game has been scrapped

An ambitious game set in the world of Blade Runner has reportedly been scrapped by the creators of Until Dawn.
According to Insider Gaming, the unannounced game was being developed by Supermassive Games and had a budget of $45million. The “character focused, cinematic, action adventure” game was set in 2065 and would follow the last Blade Runner through a “compelling story, blending the philosophical themes of Blade Runner with kinetic action-adventure gameplay”.
Blade Runner: Time To Live would have seen players play as So-Lange, a vintage model Nexus-6 “inexplicably still alive well beyond their limited lifespan.”
“Journey from the teeming undercity of New Zurich 2065 to the eerie remnants of the forgotten world beyond,” read a description of the game. “Under orders to retire Rev, the mysterious and ruthless leader of an underground replicant network, you are betrayed and left for dead in a brutally hostile environment.”
Pre-production on Blade Runner: Time To Live started at the end of last year and was being spearheaded by the team behind 2022’s The Quarry. The studio were aiming for a 2027 release and according to one person close to the development, Time To Live was “very impressive”. However Supermassive have now cancelled the game.
It's a bummer that Supermassive's Blade Runner game got canned. Their knack for immersive storytelling would've been a perfect fit for that universe. Here's hoping they pivot to something equally thrilling!

According to reports, the decision to scrap the project came about due to issues with Alcon Entertainment, who own the rights to Blade Runner.
Neither Alcon Entertainment or Supermassive Games have commented on the news. “As a huge Blade Runner fan, this sucks,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “I imagine this could have been truly amazing,” said another.
Back in 2023, publisher Annapurna Interactive announced it would be developing its first in-house game, Blade Runner 33: Labyrinth. However no further information has ever been shared.
In other news, the Until Dawn movie hit cinemas today (April 25) but gaming fans really aren’t happy with how different it is. “Stop taking beloved games then completely changing them”
