‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ soundtrack to get bumper vinyl release

The brilliant soundtrack to Assassin’s Creed Shadows is being released on vinyl later this year, via Laced Records.
Featuring dual protagonists Naoe and Yasuke, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the first game in the long-running franchise that takes place in Feudal Japan. Developers went to great lengths to make the environment as authentic as possible, speaking to historians and working closely with the team at Ubisoft Japan.
Authenticity was also a big factor in the soundtrack created by composer duo The Flight, who used a range of classic instruments for their epic score.
Now Laced Records has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ soundtrack will be released on vinyl later this year. A 4LP boxset will feature 44 specially mastered tracks on translucent red and black splatter discs, and include choice cuts from The Flight’s stunning soundtrack as well as music from a pair of companion albums.
The Naoe-focused ‘Kage No Iro’ has been created by Japanese-Canadian psych-rock band TEKE::TEKE while the Yasuke-focused ‘UKOMBOZI’ was crafted by composition team Thunderdrum and features rapper Tiggs Da Author.
The 4LP boxset will cost £77 and ship in October. The three albums are also available separately and are available to pre-order now.
The Flight’s double LP will feature 29 tracks, TEKE::TEKE’s ‘Kage No Iro’ album will include seven songs and Thunderdrum’s ‘UKOMBOZI’ record will include eight tracks.
Speaking to NME earlier this year, The Flight’s Joe Henson said: “At its heart, Assassin’s Creed is a science fiction franchise and we always wanted to make a modern sounding score. When we did Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, we intentionally made the music sound older but for this one, we wanted to combine traditional Japanese instruments with something more contemporary,” so they looked at Western films and turned to acts like Wu-Tang Clan for inspiration. “Hip-hop has taken a lot of influence from Japanese music,” added Alexis Smith.
“We both came from pop music rather than a traditional film scoring background, so there’s also a lot of avant garde pop that we were listening to while doing Shadows,” he continued. “We just love anything that pushes boundaries a bit.“
Earlier this year, Ubisoft also released a lo-fi reimagining of the Assassin’s Creed Shadows score.
In other news, Hideo Kojima has revealed his new “action espionage” game Physint won’t be released until 2030 at the earliest.
