Cardi B announces long-awaited sophomore album ‘Am I The Drama?’

Cardi B has finally announced her long-awaited sophomore album, ‘Am I The Drama?’ – see all the details below.

Last night (June 23), the ‘I Like It’ rapper took to social media to officially announce her second album after days of teasing an announcement. ‘Am I The Drama?’ is due for release on September 19 via Atlantic/Warner – you can pre-order/pre-save album here.

The album cover sees the rapper-singer posing on the ground in a red dress as she’s surrounded by black crows.

In the lead-up to the announcement, Cardi B teased in a cinematic Instagram video: “Seven years and the time has come. Seven years of love, life and loss. Seven years I gave them grace, but now, I give them hell. I learned power is not given, it’s taken. I’m shedding feathers and no more tears. I’m not back, I’m beyond. I’m not your villain, I’m your tyrant. The time is here. The time is now.”

‘Am I The Drama?’ is previewed by the lead single ‘Outside’, which arrived last weekend (June 20). The bass-heavy track appears to include digs at her ex-husband Offset and seemingly sees her confirm her relationship with New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

Listen to ‘Outside’ below.

The 23-track album will also include her two previously released hits ‘Up’ and ‘WAP’ with Megan Thee Stallion.

Cardi B’s 2018 debut ‘Invasion of Privacy’ scored a four-star review from NME, with Nick Levine writing: “Overall, this is a remarkably confident and compelling debut from a superstar who’s put in the graft. “My little 15 minutes lasting long as hell, huh?” she boasts nonchalantly on final track ‘I Do’. On this evidence, it’s going to last a lot longer yet.”

‘Am I The Drama?’ will be the rapper’s first record since her dramatic split from Migos rapper Offset last year. The couple previously separated in December 2018. Cardi then filed for divorce in 2020, claiming that “there are no prospects for a reconciliation.” A month later, the ‘WAP’ rapper decided not to go through with it. Last year, however, the pair did separate when the rapper confirmed she was expecting her third child.

In March, it was reported that Offset filed legal documents requesting joint custody of the couple’s three childrenKulture, Wave, and their youngest daughter, whose name has not been revealed yet.

He specified in his filing that Cardi’s residence should be the primary home for the children, and asked the court to determine each parent’s child support responsibilities. Additionally, he requested that all the couple’s marital property be split 50/50 and both parties should cover their own legal fees.
