Drake officially cancels his postponed Australia and New Zealand tour dates

Drake has officially cancelled his postponed Australia and New Zealand tour dates.

In February, the Canadian rapper made his return to Australia and New Zealand for his first tour in eight years, having sold out 16 dates. He played twelve, before postponing four remaining shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Auckland due to a “scheduling conflict”.

A statement from Drake’s representatives noted at the time that the musician’s team were “actively working on rescheduling these dates along with adding some additional shows,” though no further updates arrived.

Now, after five months, ticketholders received word today (July 29) that the remainder of the tour had officially been cancelled.

“Despite extensive efforts to find a solution, rescheduling within the necessary timeframe was not possible,” a statement from Live Nation Australia read. “Drake remains committed to returning and performing these shows when his schedule permits.”

Drake kicked off his ‘$ome $pecial $ongs 4 UK’ tour in Birmingham’s Utilita Arena last week (July 20), with a show that included the crowd leading a chant of “fuck Kendrick”. The Canadian rapper responded: ““Alright, alright, alright. I can’t say that I don’t agree.”

On Sunday (July 27), the rapper cancelled a show at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena due to “travel logistics”. He was due to play at the Co-op Live arena on Monday night (July 28), having already played two shows in the arena on Friday and Saturday.

The tour is a co-headline effort alongside PARTYNEXTDOOR and you can see the full list of scheduled dates hereVisit here for tickets to remaining UK shows and here for European tickets.

Drake also made history by headlining all three nights of this year’s Wireless Festival in London, playing different sets each night.

NME’s Kyann-Sian Williams gave the series of shows a three-star review and described it as “expertly curated, but [lacking] conviction”.

“For all the scale and all the stats – most Billboard Number Ones, most streamed rapper ever, the fastest-selling Wireless edition in history – this should’ve been Drake’s victory lap, reminding us why he earned all his success,” it read. “Instead, it feels like a man floating above his own myth, still chasing the love he’s already received. The Boy became a man, sure – but Drake’s record-breaking Wireless residency feels like he’s yet to grow up.”
