‘Game Of Thrones’ fans furious as George R. R. Martin confirms two more jobs that aren’t ‘Winds Of Winter’

George R. R. Martin has signed on to produce a new movie, with Game Of Thrones fans fearing this is another sign he will not be working on the long-delayed next novel in the book series, The Winds Of Winter.

The Hollywood Reporter announced in an article that the writer will serve as producer on A Dozen Tough Jobs, an adaptation of his late friend Howard Waldrop’s book, which reimagines the Greek classic of the 12 labours of Hercules from perspective of a former sharecropper fighting to regain his freedom in 1920s Mississippi.

He will add this producing role to the one he has for the recently announced Elden Ring movie adaptation. Martin, in his words, helped with “a bit of worldbuilding” on the game, and will serve as producer on the A24 project, which is being directed by Alex Garland.

Despite not writing either of these projects, the author’s packed schedule was bad news for readers of A Song Of Ice And Fire, the book series on which the TV show Game Of Thrones is based. The last book, A Dance With Dragons, was released in 2011, and fans have been waiting for the final two books, The Winds Of Winter and A Dream Of Spring, ever since then. The show had to write its own conclusion to the story to finish the series.

In April, Martin described finishing the books as “the curse of my life”. “I’m still working on it” he revealed to Time. “I have periods where I make progress and then other things divert my attention and suddenly I have a deadline for one of the HBO shows, I have something else to do”.

On X (formerly Twitter), those waiting for the conclusion to the fantasy series voiced their disapproval. “Anything that will keep him from finishing his books.” said one, with another adding that they are “Never getting finished”.

One person lamented: “Accepted ages ago that he’s never going to finish the series. Read all the released ones so far but it’s been 14 years since last book. At this point even if he did finish it, which he won’t, I wouldn’t bother buy it now as interest is long gone for taking so long”.
