Gorillaz announce new London ‘Fortnite’ pop-up event

To celebrate their appearance in Fortnite, Gorillaz have announced details of a new London pop-up event.
After rumours, it was confirmed last week that Gorillaz will be the next headliner of rhythm game Fortnite Festival.
The crossover will include a new Main Stage inspired by the cartoon world of Gorillaz, skins of all four members and new jam tracks ‘Up On Melancholy Hill’, ‘Dare’ and ‘Clint Eastwood’. “It’s an honour for all of you that I am finally to be immortalised in my own fiefdom. Watch out serfs, here I come,” said the band’s Murdoc Niccals in a statement.
However when Gorillaz were first announced for Fortnite, some players had no idea who the band were.
To celebrate the collaboration, a special ‘Fortnite Festival IRL’ pop-up event has launched at their House Of Kong exhibition at London’s Hackney Bridge Garden. The pop-up “merges the worlds of Gorillaz and Fortnite into an immersive activation filled with gaming stations, giveaways, live game streams and DJ performances” and will run until September 3.
Gorillaz’ House Of Kong exhibition is part of the band’s 25th anniversary celebrations. Held at London’s Copper Box, the gallery offers fans a look behind the curtain of the virtual band’s headquarters, and offers insight into the journey they’ve been on since sharing their 2000 debut single ‘Tomorrow Comes Today’. “House of Kong is not a retrospective, it’s an audio-visual artwork; an installation that takes a glance backwards in order to identify the path ahead,” creative director Stephen Gallagher said. “This is no ordinary exhibition because in the world of Gorillaz, nothing is ever quite as it seems…”
Exclusive merch is also on offer. Visit here for tickets and more information.
Gorillaz will also be playing four special headline gigs at the nearby Cooper Box Arena. Across three nights, the band will play their first three albums in full while a fourth show is billed as a “mystery”. Damon Albarn has also teased that new music “might” be aired during the show. Earlier this year, he said a new Gorillaz album would be released in 2025 but so far, nothing has been announced.
In other news, the Nintendo Switch 2 is reportedly struggling to run two highly-anticipated blockbuster titles.
