Guy Ritchie exits ‘Road House 2’

Guy Ritchie has left the upcoming sequel to Amazon’s Road House, just three months after being announced as the director of the film.
A remake of the 1989 movie with Patrick Swayze, Jake Gyllenhaal starred in the 2024 film as a former UFC fighter who takes a job at a Florida bar, only to find himself up against a local crime syndicate. Conor McGregor co-starred in the film, which became one of Amazon Prime Video’s most watched original movies of all time, with 80million views in the first eight weeks.
Gyllenhaal made headlines because of his physique in the film, revealing last year that in order to achieve the body of a fighter he was put on a strict diet, and couldn’t even “eat a chip” during filming for fear of putting himself off track.
In April, Ritchie came on board as the director of the sequel, and in June former Guardians Of The Galaxy star Dave Bautista was reported to be interested in a role in the film. However, according to a new report from Deadline, Ritchie is no longer attached.
No reason has been given for the British filmmaker leaving the production, although the article’s sources say the search for a new director is underway, and the casting process is continuing. It adds that, given the success of the original, Road House 2 is a priority for the streaming service.
Ritchie’s recent work includes the heist film Fountain Of Youth for Apple TV+, which starred John Krasinski and Natalie Portman. He also produced and directed episodes of MobLand, the hit crime thriller starring Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan.
Recently, Brosnan discussed working with Guy Ritchie on the set of the show, recalling the director’s encouragement to “go more Irish” with his character’s accent. The show has been confirmed for a second season, prompting celebrations from fans online.
