Here’s a “peek inside” Radiohead’s new exhibition ‘This Is What You Get’

Organisers at The Ashmolean Museum have shared a “peek inside” of Radiohead‘s new exhibition ‘This Is What You Get’. Check it out below.
The exhibition in Oxford was announced at the end of 2024, and celebrates the artwork of Radiohead done by frontman Thom Yorke and the band’s longtime artist Stanley Donwood. It officially opened it’s doors today (August 6), and will remain open until January 11 2026.
In the collection, the three-decade-long collaboration between the band and the artist is carefully documented through various personal archives, providing insight into both their creative processes.
Over 180 objects will be on display, including the original paintings that later became iconic album covers, unpublished drawings, lyrics in sketchbooks, digital compositions, etchings and more.
To celebrate the doors opening, The Ashmolean Museum has shared a sneak preview of the gallery and revealed the types of things fans can expect to see when they visit.
In a series of posts on Instagram, the museum showcases things like a page from a 1995 notebook that shows Yorke’s reworking of ‘Karma Police’, various sketches he made in his notebooks over the years, the artwork that would go on to feature on Radiohead and The Smile album covers, and more.
“‘This Is What You Get’ reveals how the artists experimented with early technology, and explores the evolution of the images for Radiohead’s legendary albums and Yorke’s later projects,” reads a description on the museum’s website. “To date, the band, which was formed in Oxfordshire in the mid-1980s, has sold 30 million records worldwide.
“Developed and curated with Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke, the show offers a unique opportunity to look at the creative forces behind some of the most important and influential music of the past few decades.”

NME spoke to Donwood in 2022, where we asked him what about his work was spiritually bound to the music of Radiohead. In response, Donwood replied: “I don’t know anything about music, which might help. ‘I like the sound of that’ or ‘I don’t like the sound of that’ is about the limit of my musical understanding.
“For a long time, Thom and I would work alongside each other or almost despite each other. We’d work on the same thing for a while then we’d take turns on a picture. I’d usually win and take over and it became mine because he doesn’t have as much faith in his abilities as an artist as he does as a musician; which is fair enough because he is quite good at the old music!”
The exhibition comes as rumours are swirling that the band may be gearing up to hit the road again and have supposedly “placed holds in select European cities for a run of residency gigs this autumn”.
Last year, guitarist Jonny Greenwood spoke to NME about a potential Radiohead reunion, and put a dampener on the prospect. He said that while rehearsals were “fun and natural”, “There are no plans – we’ve lots of individual projects going on at the moment.”
Yorke then doubled down on the comments, saying he “really doesn’t give a fuck” if people want Radiohead to return. It is not yet clear if the band will be touring in 2025 or not.
