When Hugh Jackman was first announced to be returning to the role of Wolverine in the MCU, it was obviously met with some apprehension. The actor's turn as the character was given a resolute and beautiful ending in James Mangold's 2017 film Logan. This R-rated comic book movie was thematically rich and so well-received that it even earned an Academy Award nomination for its screenwriting. However, Deadpool & Wolverine would end up being a massive success, creating a loophole for Jackman to return as the character, and giving a comic-accurate version that featured longtime fan requests such as his iconic cowl and even a matchup with Sabertooth, though not the one fans wanted as seen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
