"It's a Buddy Cop Movie:" 'Lanterns' Director Teases What Fans Can Expect From the New DCU Series

Lanterns might finally give the Green Lanterns the live-action adaptation the comic book organization deserves. James Hawes (The Amateur) is directing the series, which is currently in production and is expected to be released sometime in mid-2026, although this has not been confirmed. When the show was announced, Hawes drew comparisons between the DCU's new series and HBO's timeless crime-thriller anthology, True Detective, among some other beloved series and movies. With Lanterns now shooting, and fans getting more and more excited to see what's in store from the show, Hawes has confirmed just how closely the DCU series flies to HBO's hit show, and the major way it's different.
