Mads Mikkelsen to revive classic James Bond baddie for ‘Hitman’

Mads Mikkelsen has revived his iconic James Bond baddie for a limited-time event in Hitman: World Of Assassination.

Mikkelsen played Le Chiffre in 2006’s Casino Royale. As well as taking on Daniel Craig’s 007 in a game of high-stakes poker, the celebrated film also saw him torture a naked Bond in one of the franchise’s most memorable scenes.

Now Mikkelsen’s Le Chiffre is back in Hitman: World Of Assassination, for a limited-time event that runs until July 6 for PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Switch 2 users.

“Mads Mikkelsen returns as Le Chiffre, the iconic private banker to the criminal underworld, known for his mastery of games of chance and probability,” says a press release. “A recent failed venture left him in dire straits, losing vast sums of both legitimate and illicit capital, and in a desperate bid to recover, he has arranged a high-stakes poker game at the Casino Monarchique in Paris. Agent 47 has been tasked with infiltrating the perilous event and will have to find his way to his target to prevent havoc being wreaked across the world.”

“I’ve had a lot of love for this character, it means a lot to me,” said Mikkelsen, announcing the collab onstage at the IO Showcase. “So when I got the chance to step into the shoes of Le Chiffre again, I didn’t hesitate. But this time is a little different. He’s more confident, he’s dangerous, he’s not just a brilliant mind hiding behind a desk. He’s visceral, unpredictable and ruthless, and this time, he doesn’t outsource the violence any more.”

Hitman developers IO Interactive also unveiled their new James Bond game at the showcase. 007 First Light will feature an original origin story for the spy. “Players will step into the shoes of a young Bond, a promising yet rebellious Royal Navy air crewman who is recruited into MI6,” reads a description of the game. “For the first time ever, fans will be able to experience Bond’s ascent at MI6 from a young 26-year-old recruit into a full-fledged spy – immersing them in the exotic and dangerous world of espionage captured in the films.”

007 First Light is due to launch at some point next year.

In other news, the team behind Call Of Duty has confirmed they are working on bringing the franchise to the Nintendo Switch 2.
