Nintendo has confirmed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will definitely be released at some point this year following delay rumours.

Metroid Prime 4 was announced back in 2017 with Nintendo restarting development in 2019 with their first attempt not reaching “the standard” of previous entries in the action-adventure series. A release trailer was finally unveiled last year, giving fans their first proper look at bounty hunter Samus Aran’s latest mission. It was later confirmed Metroid Prime 4 would release at some point in 2025 for both the original Switch and the Switch 2.

However, with no firm date on when fans can get their hands on the long-awaited sequel, rumours have started to circulate that Metroid Prime 4 will be delayed to 2026. YouTuber Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly claimed that the game was supposed to be a Switch 2 launch window title but still “isn’t finished”.

“Basically Metroid Prime 4 hit a snag. This anomaly isn’t that big of a deal usually, all of Retro’s previous games dating back to Metroid Prime 1 have run into issues with this anomaly, but the anomaly was slightly different each time. However the anomaly this time is a lot more severe than in previous games and its compounded by a second anomaly that seeped into the first anomaly. As of the timing of this post I am unsure if these anomalies have been resolved,” he wrote on X.

Nintendo haven’t addressed the rumours directly but late last week, they re-confirmed that Metroid Prime 4 would launch at some point this year.

“Nintendo of Canada is inviting you to visit the Fan Expo Canada in Toronto, Ontario, to check out the latest—and upcoming—games for the Nintendo Switch 2 system,” reads a news post. “Bring your friends and family to experience games like Mario Kart World and the newly released Donkey Kong Bananza. Fan Expo attendees will be able to play upcoming games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (available later in 2025).”

Earlier this year, Nintendo was forced to deny Metroid Prime 4 was about to be surprise-released after posters claiming the game was “out now” were spotted in London. In 2023, Nintendo shadow-dropped a remastered version of the original Metroid Prime for the Switch.

The Switch 2 edition of Kirby & The Forgotten Land is due to launch later this month while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will launch in October, so there is still plenty of space on Nintendo’s release calender.

In other news, FKA Twigs has teamed up with The Sims to release a Simlish version of ‘Eusexua’ single ‘Perfect Stranger’.
