During an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show, Alcock opened up about her experience on HBO’s Game Of Thrones prequel series, and how it led to her questioning her acting abilities.

Speaking about being cast in the show, Alcock said: “It’s a huge, scary world. I was plucked out of Australia and just thrown in. It was terrifying, and kind of changed my life forever.”

When Fallon asked if she was calm on set, she replied: “Oh no, I was absolutely mortified. Of course I’m not calm.

“On my second day on House Of The Dragon, one of the – I’m not going to say who – higher-ups pulled me aside and was like, ‘We’re going to get you an acting coach’.”

She continued, jokingly: “It just confirmed everything that I kind of know to be true, which is that I’m not very good at my job. I was like ‘I can’t do this, this is terrible, this is a big mistake’.”

Fallon responded encouragingly, saying: “I’m sorry, but from the first episode you were a fan favourite. That guy is wrong. You were unbelievable!”

Set around 200 years before the events of Game Of Thrones, House Of The Dragon charts a period in the fantasy series’ timeline where the silver-haired Targaryen family ruled the Seven Kingdoms, and the battles within the family over who is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne when patriarch Viserys (Paddy Considine) dies.

Alcock plays the younger version of Viserys’ daughter Rhaenyra during the first half of season one, with Emma D’Arcy taking over the role from there onwards.

House Of The Dragon’s second season aired in 2024 to positive early reviews from critics, but its finale was deemed “underwhelming” by fans, and had lower viewing figures than some season one episodes. It’s been confirmed that the show will return for two more seasons, ending with season four.

Elsewhere for Alcock, last year she was cast as Supergirl in James Gunn’s new DC Universe. Her movie, Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow, recently wrapped, but Alcock couldn’t say much about it on Fallon, except that the experience was “super fun”.

She will next appear in dark comedy series Sirens on Netflix, alongside Julianne Moore and The White Lotus season two star Meghann Fahy.
