Queens Of The Stone Age have announced details of a North American tour, inspired by their one-night-only event at The Catacombs in Paris.

The tour comes following the stripped-back performance the band held at the Parisian Catacombs last July. This saw them play without an audience, joined by a three-piece string section, and reimagine a handful of songs with creative alternatives to a drum kit. Each song was recorded live by Josh Homme and co. in one complete take, with no overdubs or edits.

To celebrate the performance – which was the first of its kind and later released as a concert film– the band will be heading on a theatre tour across the US and putting a similar, sombre spin on their tracks.

The dates will kick off at the Chicago Theatre on October 2, followed by shows in Detroit, Toronto, Philadelphia, Boston and New York City through the remainder of the month.

They pick up again in the second week of November with a show at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara (8). This is followed by stops in San Francisco and Los Angeles on November 10 and 11 respectively, before wrapping up with a penultimate show in Austin and final date in New Orleans later that month.

Tickets will go on sale on Friday (June 27) at 10am local time, and those who will be attending are encouraged to adopt a formal dress code for the theatre venues.

Earlier this month, Josh Homme and co. announced that they would be sharing the audio from the Alive in The Catacombs concert documentary as a limited edition vinyl release.

Each of the 5,000 copies contains an exclusive 24-page booklet of behind-the-scenes photos and is individually stamped and numbered. They will be available from August 22, and you can pre-order your copy here.

The film was given a four-star review by NME, with Andrew Trendell writing: “So immersive is the California rockers’ starkly beautiful Thomas Rames-directed and Blogothèque-produced half-hour live film Alive In The Catacombs, that it’s easy to get lost – as you might while navigating the tunnels and ossuaries beneath the French capital.

“What’s more, this ain’t no standard stripped-back Live Lounge kinda affair. Homme and co are aided by a supporting cast of six million souls whose skulls line the walls.”

The one-off gig at the historic site took place around the same time that QOTSA were forced to cancel some European shows due to Homme requiring “emergency surgery”. The frontman then returned to the stage last December for a Mark Lanegan tribute concert in London, but has yet to share any details about what the operation was for.

As for other upcoming shows, the band are currently playing a run of shows across the US, before they head back over the pond to headline two huge outdoor gigs at Sheffield’s Rock N Roll Circus this summer.

They will be also topping the bill at festivals including Victorious, Øya, Electric Castle, Lowlands, Pukkelpop and Rock En Seine this summer, as well as embarking on a European headline tour. Visit here for remaining UK tickets and here for international tickets.
