Ryan Reynolds responds to Neil Patrick Harris as new Deadpool

Ryan Reynolds has shared his thoughts on Neil Patrick Harris playing Deadpool in a new VR video game.
For the past decade, Deadpool has been played by Ryan Reynolds in a number of blockbuster movies but for new video game Marvel’s Deadpool VR, the character will be voiced by Neil Patrick Harris.
A teaser trailer for the new game sees Patrick Harris’ take on the assassin causing lots of bloody carnage. “Escape the turd-burger of late-stage capitalism and enter a world of VR magic,” he says via a voice over.
Responding to the new game, Reynolds has shared an “over reaction” video on his YouTube channel while dressed like child prodigy Doogie Howser, which was Harris’ breakout role. “Today, I learned a lesson about buttholes they don’t teach you in medical school,” Reynolds says. “People who steal your signature role are the biggest buttholes of all.”
“No, I don’t blame Meta Quest. Neil Patrick Harris is an amazing actor with the nurturing voice of an angel, but even though I haven’t hit puberty yet, I still know when you’re getting totally screwed.” Robyn Lively, who played one of Howser’s love interests on the show and is Reynolds’ real-life sister-in-law, appears and calls the video “vindictive and stupid.”
Marvel’s Deadpool VR was announced last week as part of the Summer Game Fest showcase. “Feel what it’s like to go deep inside Deadpool in Marvel’s Deadpool VR, an original game developed exclusively for Meta Quest 3/3S,” reads a description of the game.
“Contracted by Mojo, with the promise of making money, like a lot of money, Deadpool sets out to capture villains from the Marvel Universe. The Merc With The Mouth soon realises he shouldn’t have so hastily signed the contract. Will he survive or thrive in his journey to become the Mojoverse’s most famous interdimensional streaming star?”
“Marvel’s Deadpool VR blends savage ranged and melee combat with fast paced and uncompromising traversal. Defeat enemies with an upgradeable arsenal of weapons and discover stylish and creative ways to dismember anyone who stands in your way,” it continues.
Marvel’s Deadpool VR will launch later this year.
Last month, Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra was delayed by a year while an open-world Black Panther game was scrapped. However The Russo brothers have said they’d “definitely be open” to working on an Avengers video game while directing Doomsday. The next Avengers film is now due to hit cinemas December 18, 2026.
In other news, Wu-Tang Clan have announced their own video game, Rise Of The Deceiver. The multiplayer action game will feature a soundtrack of classic Wu-Tang Clan songs as well as new music from DJ Just Blaze. “This project is very much a love letter to hip-hop culture and to Wu in general,” he explained.
