Shakira’s Boston concert cancelled at the last minute due to venue complications

Shakira’s concert in Boston was cancelled at the last minute due to complications around the venue.

The ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ hitmaker was set to perform at the city’s Fenway Park last night (May 29) as part of her ongoing tour, ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’.

In the run-up to the gig, it appeared that everything was going smoothly. The singer shared numerous updates on social media yesterday sharing her excitement for the show, and even teased that there would be guest appearances from Wyclef Jean and Will.i.am.

However, just hours before the doors were set to open, an announcement was shared by Live Nation saying that it would be no longer going ahead.

The issues were said to be around “unforeseen circumstances”, and other performances from Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn – scheduled for tonight (May 30) – were also scrapped.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Shakira and Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn performances originally scheduled for May 29th and May 30th respectively at Fenway Park have been cancelled,” the update read. “Refunds will be available at your point of purchase. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

The same statement was shared by Fenway Concerts, and no official reasoning for the cancellation was shared. None of the artists involved have publicly shared a comment about the axed shows at time of writing.

While neither Live Nation nor Fenway explained what caused the shows to be cancelled, a report from local channel 7News suggests that the decision may have been reached following an inspection of the venue.

It claims that an inspectional services department spotted a safety concern at the site when preparing to sign off on the stage structure, although this has not been officially confirmed.

With the show last night, Shakira was meant to be the first artist to perform at the venue to kick off the 2025 Fenway Concert Series. She is set to continue her tour dates tomorrow (Saturday May 31) in Washington D.C., and it is not yet clear whether she will reschedule another show for Boston.

While Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn have had their shows cancelled for Fenway too, the series is meant to continue on June 23 and 24 with shows from Hozier. Other performances for the series include stops from My Chemical Romance, Jonas Brothers, The Lumineers, Thomas Rhett and more.

This isn’t the only show Shakira has been forced to cancel recently. Back in February, the ‘Whenever, Wherever’ star had to postpone a show in Medellín, Colombia due to stage safety concerns. Just days before then, she had to reschedule a show in Lima, Peru on after being hospitalised.
