‘Superman’ actress estimates she took more than 1,000 selfies for role

Superman cast member Sara Sampaio has revealed she took over 1,000 selfies for her part in the James Gunn blockbuster.
The actor plays Eve Teschmacher, the girlfriend of the evil Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) who is seen throughout the film taking selfies while chaos unfolds in the background. While seemingly a comedy character, the relentless selfie taking becomes a crucial part of the film’s third act as it helps hinder Luthor’s plans.
“Everyone underestimated Eve (from the start): ‘What is she even doing in the movie? Why is she taking selfies? This is so stupid,’” Sampaio told The Hollywood Reporter. “And now everyone is like, ‘Oh!’ She saves the day at the end, and it’s a brilliant way of showing how humans and characters are not just one thing”.
She also revealed how the selfies in question were generated. “I had a set phone to use as my character’s phone, and I had to take selfies the whole time” she said. “So I think I took over 1.000 photos, and while we shot for seven months, I was only on set for maybe 20 days. So that’s a lot of selfies in that time. I keep saying that I need to get that phone back. There were some funny ones in there, for sure”.
Since its release, Superman has shot to the top of the box office charts and received warm reviews for critics, standing at 81% on aggregator Rotten Tomatoes – the highest of any Superman film except for the first two Christopher Reeve blockbusters
Recently, director Gunn discussed the surprise A-list cameo in the film, talking about how the casting came about as a “favour”. He also recalled the time he turned down directing Henry Cavill in Man Of Steel 2 back in 2018.
