Sydney Sweeney will reportedly star in an adaptation of hit co-op game Split Fiction, while Wicked’s Jon M. Chu is set to direct.

Split Fiction was released earlier this year, shifted more than 2million copies and received rave reviews. The co-op game is the follow-up to HazeLight’s beloved It Takes Two and sees players jumping between sci-fi and fantasy worlds.

“By merging the sci-fi and fantasy genres – and tipping its hi-octane hat to a vast range of classic games besides – Split Fiction takes a major shot at being all games to all people. Sci-fi fans get their jet packs, wingsuits, hoverboard races, sand shark rides and adrenaline-fuelled jet-ski escapes. Fantasy freaks can shape-shift, spell-cast and commune with the spirits to their leather-armoured hearts’ content,” NME wrote in a five-star review.

Shortly after it was released, it was reported that the movie rights for Split Fiction had started a bidding war in Hollywood. Now, according to Variety, the Split Fiction movie will star Sydney Sweeney who will also act as an executive producer on the project. However it’s not been confirmed if she will play Zoe or Mio.

The Split Fiction film will be directed by Wicked’s Jon M. Chu while the script is currently being written by the team behind Deadpool & Wolverine, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Earlier this year, HazeLight founder Josef Fares admitted he was unsure if a Split Fiction movie would happen. “It would be nice if it happened, but again, I’ll believe it when I see it. Sometimes there’s a lot of talks, but nothing happens. So we will see.”

In 2023, it was announced Amazon had acquired the distribution rights to an adaptation of It Takes Two, with Dwayne Johnson one of the producers and Pat Casey and Josh Miller [the writing duo behind the live-action Sonic The Hedgehog movies] working on the script. However no further info has been shared. “There’s a lot of talk, but not a lot of walk,” Fares said. “I don’t know what’s going on. Hopefully something. It would be cool to get something out of it, but my hopes are not so high.”

Meanwhile, Sydney Sweeney is also reportedly involved in the big screen adaptation of classic arcade racing game OutRun. She’s set to serve as executive producer while Michael Bay will direct the film.

In other news, to celebrate Alien Day, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can play Alien: Isolation for free this weekend.
