‘The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion’ remake is out now

'The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered'.

After plenty of online buzz and the occasional leak, Bethesda has officially confirmed a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.

The prequel to the beloved Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion was originally released in 2006 and went on to sell more than 9million copies worldwide. The celebrated open-world game saw players take to the fictional province of Cyrodii and stop a fanatical cult known as the Mythic Dawn from opening gates to the demonic realm of Oblivion.

Rumours of a remake were first reported back in 2023 and earlier this year, a number of leakers claimed the project was set to be announced at some point this year. Last week, a number of images hinting at a remastered version of Oblivion were discovered on Virtuos’ website while some players claimed the Xbox support chatbot had told them the game would be released yesterday (April 21)

Last week, Bethesda confirmed a reveal would take place today (April 22) and at the end of the 20-minute presentation, developers confirmed the game would also be released today.

“All of the sudden i am extremely sick and will not be able to make it into work for the remainder of the week,” one fan wrote on YouTube. “This has honestly brought tears to my eyes. Well done Bethesda,” said another. “I love how it looks good while maintaining the original style and charm of Oblivion. Other companies should be taking notes from this because THIS is what a remaster should be,” wrote a third.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered modernises the 2006 Game Of The Year with all new stunning visuals and refined gameplay,” reads the official description. “Explore the vast landscape of Cyrodiil like never before and stop the forces of Oblivion from overtaking the land in one of the greatest RPGs ever from the award-winning Bethesda Game Studios.”

During the presentation, Todd Howard also confirmed Bethesda were still working on The Elder Scrolls 6. Last year, developers confirmed they’d finished an early playable build of the latest entry in the long-running series but the game still doesn’t have a release date.

Howard has also confirmed The Elder Scrolls 6 will be the studio’s next release followed by Fallout 5.

In other news, Black Mirror fans can play the adorable video game Thronglets that features in season seven episode Plaything.
