The first trailer for Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Running Man’ is here

The first trailer for Edgar Wright’s new film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Running Man is out – check it out below.
As confirmed in 2021, the Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz director has co-written and directed the film, which is due to arrive in cinemas on November 7.
King’s 1982 novel was made into a film in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead, and the new version sees Glen Powell (Twisters, Hit Man) take on the central role as Ben Richards, a father who is convinced to take part in a TV game show in which he will be hunted by professional assassins as he chases a cash prize.
Wright has written the film alongside Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, 21 Jump Street), and it also stars Josh Brolin as the producer of the game show, Colman Domingo as the host and Michael Cera as a rebel who helps Ben survive.
The trailer shows Powell’s character pushed to extremes as he tries to evade the hunters, while a viewing public tuck into the show from their sofas. Watch here:
The film’s official synopsis states the ‘runners’ “must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward. Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is convinced by the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), to enter the game as a last resort.”
“But Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite — and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall.”
The Running Man is Wright’s first film since Last Night In Soho in 2021. In a four-star review of that film, NME wrote: “A never-ending stream of pop culture references, impressive needle drops and Wright’s signature witty asides will please fans, though Last Night In Soho feels far flung from Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz. Here, Wright has embarked upon a fascinating different direction, clearly distinct from what he’s done before. It could be one of his greatest hits.”
